If you haven't already done so, I recommend subscribing to Ariella Elm's Substack where she shares daily wins and posts about Democrats taking action. It's really easy to get discouraged when literally each day brings a new outrage from the administration. Realizing that positive things are happening gives us the energy we need to keep fighting back! And remember, action is the antidote to despair. :-) Keep reading for easy actions you can take at the state and federal levels. Note: A lot of these actions may ask you to sign up for email or text alerts--just uncheck those boxes if you aren't interested.
REMINDER: If you're interested in doing more with Wallingford Indivisible, please sign up for one of our action or operational groups! Our action groups focus on issues such as the environment, voting rights, and disinformation, while our operational groups include tech/social media, membership, and others.
FEDERAL ACTIONS
Protect Trans Care (ACLU) (1 minute)
It becomes more clear every day that the Trump administration is trying to erase trans people from existence. A key method of attack is to ban gender-affirming care--first for people under 18, then for adults. Remind our Members of Congress to vote NO on legislation criminalizing providers of medical care to transgender youth.
Stop the EPA from ignoring science regarding the impact of greenhouse gases (3 minutes)
A real blow to climate progress will happen if the climate -denying MAGA EPA is successful in rescinding the endangerment finding which is the legal underpinning of a host of climate regulations under the Clean Air Act for motor vehicles, power plants and other pollution sources that are heating the planet. Tell the EPA NO on eliminating greenhouse gas standards for motor vehicles, and personalize your response to make sure it'll be counted.
Suggested talking points:
EPA's finding was based on comprehensive review of peer-reviewed scientific literature
Climate damages impose massive economic costs through infrastructure damage, agricultural losses, and health care expenses
The EPA has a duty to protect all Americans, especially those least able to adapt to climate impacts
Scientific evidence shows a limited time frame to avoid catastrophic climate impacts
Call RFK Jr to Oppose the Cancellation of Funding for mRNA Vaccine Development (2 minutes)
Earlier this week RFK Jr. announced that DSHS would cancel $500 million funding for existing projects to develop mRNA-based vaccines. One public health expert said he hadn't seen a more dangerous public health decision in his 50 years of practice. Tell RFK Jr. this is a terrible idea and it needs to be rescinded immediately.

Suggested talking points:
mRNA vaccines have shown effectiveness against COVID-19 with strong safety profiles in clinical trials and real-world use
Maintaining research capacity ensures readiness for future pandemics and emerging infectious diseases
Early investment in pandemic preparedness is more cost-effective than responding to crises after they emerge.
Call for an Investigation of "Alligator Alcatraz" (1 minute)
We've all read about the inhumane conditions at the hurriedly-built ICE detention center in Florida. Take action to ask our Members of Congress to investigate conditions there and hold those responsible accountable for violations of human rights, environmental regulations, and tribal sovereignty.
STATE ACTIONS
Advocate for Progressive Revenue (5 minutes)
Call your WA State lawmakers to let them know that you are eager to see more assertive movement on progressive revenue in the next session given budget shortfalls, Trump’s corrupt clawing back of funding and resources, and frankly, it's just time. Use Balance Our Tax Code coalition talking points. Look up your lawmakers here to get their phone number.
Thank Gov. Ferguson and AG Brown for Standing Up for Planned Parenthood (3 minutes)
Both Gov. Ferguson and AG Brown have vigorously defended Planned Parenthood from repeated attacks by the federal government. Learn more about what they've done and send a thank you to both here (Thanks to Olympia Indivisible's Lisa Ornstein for this action!) Republicans cut funding to NPR stations across the country, and some are suffering more than others. Washington stations are in relatively good shape, so go straight to Step 2 and adopt a station that's lost 50% or more of its total revenue.
